DVR usage

Okay, so it's the beginning of the fall season and there are a lot of shows I'd love to see but don't have the right availability to watch them when they are aired.  Isn't that why we have a DVR?  My husband has this thing about keeping the DVR under 28% full.  Why?  I have no idea.  But, I fell in love with the HBO series,  In Treatment.  There are episodes on frequently, but each one follows a different patient throughout their therapy sessions.  I love them all and set them up to tape each series.
My husband freaked out, even though I watch them and delete them afterward, right away.  He's so afraid of using the DVR and having it fill up!  I still don't get it.
Well, I only got to watch one of two that were on the DVR yesterday.  I thought I would watch the other today.  I got all settled in early this afternoon and was ready to watch, but it wasn't there!!  There were two new episodes, but the ones from yesterday were gone!
When my husband came home from work, I asked if he had erased the episodes by accident.  He said no.  So then I went on to question why the episodes from yesterday were gone, but there were two from today. He THEN said that he had changed the options to override two for two......!!  Without telling me!!  It's this type of action that drives me and my son and daughter crazy.  He does things to our shows on the DVR without telling us and then acts like it's no big deal.  Meanwhile, if we would erase anything of his, he would have a fit!
After a lot of nonsense, he finally changed it to where I can have up to 4 episodes before they override!  Why does there have to be a limit?!!
This type of thing drives me nuts.  Anyone else out there with a similar issue?
I just had to vent........
